Happy Valentine's day!

Do you celebrate Valentine's day? Do I?

I think I will  celebrate it someday :) but as it is said if you love someone you have Valentine's day everyday.
Below I posted some interesting facts about Valentine.

What is actually Valentine's day?

  • In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who their valentines would be. They would wear these names on their sleeves for one week. Today, to wear your heart on your sleeve means being transparent with your affections. (I'm having a tough time verifying this one, so please file this under "legends" instead of "history" for now.)

  • Three different Saint Valentines have been mentioned by the martyrologies of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • The Catholic Church struck St. Valentine’s Day from its official calendar in 1969.
  • The phrase "Sweets for the sweet" is a line from Shakespeare's Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 1.
  • Famous Valentine's Day weddings: The Captain and Tennille, Elton John and Renate Blauel, Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid, Jerry Garcia and Deborah Koons, and Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee.
  • Famous Valentine's Day birthdays: Thomas Malthus (1766), Frederick Douglass (1817), Jack Benny (1894), Jimmy Hoffa (1913), Hugh Downs (1921), Florence Henderson (1943), Carl Bernstein (1944), Tim Buckley (1946), Gregory Hines (1946), Jules Asner (1968), Rob Thomas (1972), Steve McNair (1973).

Valentine Flowers/Roses
  1. Received Valentine Flowers? Well I guess you are a woman. Of the 73% of people who buy Valentine's Day flowers are men, while only 27 percent are women.

  2. A single perfect red rose framed with baby's breath is named by some florists as a "signature rose," and is the preferred choice for most for giving on Valentine's Day, anniversaries and birthdays.

  3. The red rose was the favorite flower of Venus, the Roman goddess of love. The color red stands for strong romantic feelings making the red rose the flower of love.

Facts

1.)Celebrated as the commemorative day of Saint Valentine, it is not certain whether this is one specific person, or the group of 14 martyred saints of ancient Rome, all of the same name.

6.)The Saint to which the day has been dedicated brought nothing romantic to be attached to the day, though the earliest association of Valentine's Day with romance goes to the credit of great writer Geoffrey Chaucer, who writes in his Parlement of Foules, 1382, For this was on seynt Volantynys day, Whan euery bryd comyth there to chese his make?, therefore beginning the tradition.

7.)During 19th century, physicians would prescribe chocolates to their patients, who would pine for a lost love.

8.)The cops of Saudi Arabia banned the sale of anything red or symbolizing love in 2002 and 2008, believing that this is a Christian festival, resulting in a black market of Valentine's Day gifts in 2008, which witnessed an even bigger number of customers.

9.)Apart from lovers, spouses, and sweethearts, the other people who receive maximum number of flowers, cards and gifts on the day are, mothers and teachers.

10.)The University of Maryland, educates the masses and media about the Valentine's day, through its academic experts.

11.)We all have heard the phrase “wearing your heart on your sleeve”, but the phrase has actually come from Middle ages, when according to a popular tradition, young men and women would draw chits from a bowl , to know the names of their valentines and then, would wear that name on their sleeve for the entire week

12.)The day is also a great day for the beloved pets of many families, as it has been surveyed that people bring gifts for their pets also on Valentine's Day, in huge numbers.

Berlin 2012

Ne muajin Maj udhetova drejt Berlinit me mamin dhe vellain. Qendruam 4 dite dhe ishin shume pak per ta vizituar nje pjese te mire te qytetit. Me cfare me treguan ishte rraskapitese te perpiqeshe te vizitoje shume vende brenda dites.

Me shoqen time Ruxandra (nga Rumania)

28.11.1912- 28.11.2012

100 vjet shtet!

Shqiperia mbushi 100 vjec! E gezofsh ditelindjen Shqiperi!

Neser, do te festohet festa e pavarsise ne cdo vend ku flitet gjuha shqipe. Do te festojne shqiptaret kudo qe ndodhen. Do te festojne te gjthe ata qe kane pakenaqesi per vendin si dhe ata qe kane gjetur rehatin ketu. Do te festohet per token tone, per vendin ku kemi lindur e nga vijme dhe jo per ata njerez qe na perfaqesojne sot e jane imazhi yne ne rang nderkombetar.

100 vjet shtet i pavarur! 100 vjet per te arritur ketu ku jemi sot.

Kemi ende shume rruge per te bere qe te arrijme aty ku duhet, aty ku eshte me e mira per kete vend. Por, e mira nuk ka fund! Ata njerez qe dhane jeten per kete vend e deshironin Shqiperine te lire dhe te pavarur. E donin Shqiperine te shendetshme, te bukur dhe plot jete. Nuk e donin te djegur, te zhgenjyer, te lenduar, poshteruar e shpeshhere te turperuar, te pakenaqur e te rrezuar perdhe sic eshte sot.

Ah, moj Shqiperi sa ke vuajtur e do vuash!

Por, te pakten sot qe po e shkruaj kete post nuk dua te mendoj per cfare eshte bere me pare dhe si do jete e ardhmja se nuk i dihet se si do shkojne gjerat. Nuk dua te mendoj kaq gjate ne keto momente sepse gje ne dore nuk kam une e as ata qe me rrethojne. Ne jemi populli i thjeshte qe e gezon dhe e do kete vend. E dua kete vend per arsyen e thjeshte dhe te vetme. Ky vend me ka dhene ate cka kam sot, familjen time. Luftuan nga pak me aq sa munden cdo dite qe te mos shkaterrohej cdo dite e me shume.

E dua kete vend per cdo gje qe me ka dhene. Te dua o Shqiperi sido qe te jesh.
E te uroj nga thellesia e zemres ta gezosh pavarsine per shume vite te tjera. Ta gezosh se e meriton me shume se cdo gje tjeter!

100 vjet te pavarur!
